SUMMARY:Fall Sunday Sermon Series
DESCRIPTION:W.W.J.D. What Would Jesus Do?  On Sunday\, Aug 16\, our pastors will lead us through a fall Sermon Series based on the Sermon on the Mount.  It’s Jesus’s biggest sermon to a public audience and it is part of the Mount Rushmore of scriptures. It has highlights such as: \n“Blessed are the poor in spirit\, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3)\n“You are the salt of the earth.” (Matt 5:13)\n“If anyone slaps you on the right cheek\, turn to them the other cheek also.” (Matt 5:39)\n“Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” (Matt 5:44)\n“Where your treasure is\, there your heart will be also.” (Matt 6:21)\n“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (Matt 6:27)\n“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow\, for tomorrow will worry about itself.” (Matt 6:34)\n“Do not judge\, or you too will be judged.” (Matt 7:1)\n“Enter through the narrow gate.” (Matt 7:13) \nThis three-chapter sermon in the gospel of Matthew shapes much of the Christian life and tradition. We want to dive deeply into what Jesus’ big sermon might have to teach us about living as Christians\, but even more importantly\, about God’s character of mercy and grace for us all. It’s a big one\, so it’s going to take big time. We’ll be exploring the Sermon on the Mount from Sunday\, Aug 16 until Thanksgiving in a sermon series titled “Follow: 15 Weeks with Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount.” \nWe encourage you to begin reading now. Sit down and read Matthew 5-7. It won’t take long to read the words\, but it will take your whole life to understand them. Join us this fall in worship as we seek to do just that!

SUMMARY:Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Course
DESCRIPTION:Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Course – Wednesdays 5:30-7:00 PM\, September 9 – Oct 28 \nWhat does it actually look like to live a Christian life in our world? Is discipleship more than just being nice and volunteering some hours at church? As we’ll explore in our WWJD sermon series this fall\, the answer is an unequivocal YES! Jesus calls us to follow him in every aspect of our lives: work\, home\, finances\, friendships\, commitments\, and more. The Emotionally Healthy Spirituality course taught by respected pastor Pete Scazzero and facilitated here by Kia Creamer will help you do just that: Give God your whole heart and life. \nWe have hosted this course twice at First Pres over the last couple of years with select groups of leaders. Now we are opening the course up to the congregation. We want First Pres to become a church that goes deeper with Christ with a slowed down spirituality that is rooted an a Biblical framework\, ancient spiritual practices\, and a guide to live it out in our modern world. \nEmotionally Healthy Spirituality will be hosted on Wednesday nights 5:30-7:00 PM in the Youth Room for 8-weeks starting September 9. Registration is required and space is limited. If you’re interested\, email Pastor Lara by September 1. \n“While this study explored several aspects of emotionally healthy spirituality\, I had one big take away. It has always been hard for me to say no. It allowed me to say “I can’t do that or that’s not something I need to do at this point in my life.” If we are not emotionally healthy spiritually then our ministry and service is not healthily. I’m so glad I said yes when asked to join this study.” – Kathy Sanborn \n“Illuminating study on the true wholeness God desires for us and the small group methodology makes it all the more enriching.” – Jennifer Flynn
