Children’S Ministry
Children are a gift from God. They bless us with their wide-eyed wonder, gift for play, and never ending curiosity. In a culture where children were looked down upon, Jesus honored their personhood, gave them special attention, and said we all must become like children in faith. We are passionate about helping children develop a desire to follow Christ. We are committed to supporting parents and volunteers to confidently nurture their children both at home and in our ministries. To protect the sacred dignity of children, all volunteers who spend time with minors under age 18 at First Presbyterian Church are child protection trained and background checked every three years. Sunday Morning Classes
First Kids
Fun is one way we celebrate God’s gift of life, play in God’s grace, and grow in friendship. First Kids and their adult leaders are high energy and put fun into learning about God, Jesus, and the Bible. First Kids is for families who desire a Christian-centered Wednesday night program for their children. Children ages 3 years old through 5th grade are invited. Children do not have to be members of our church to participate. We love visitors!
First Kids meets regularly on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 – 7:00pm on our church campus. First, we have supper and big group fun. Afterwards, we split into different age groups and rotate through different classrooms like Bible class, music, recreation, movie night, or arts & crafts. First Kids participate in service projects, holiday celebrations, the Family Christmas Pageant, Easter morning celebrations, and create super energy for our church and community. They are a blast.
Children Choir
We learn best through song. The children’s choir program teaches children the basic principles of music while they learn the basic principles of our faith. The Children’s choir serves children ages 3 to 5th grade, and meets as part of our Wednesday evening First Kids program. Children’s choir usually sings once per month in worship (Sanctuary and/or Life Center). They also perform a Christmas pageant with special music during our Advent Season. Vacation Bible School
We want to share the gift of Christ’s love and the warmth of our congregation with all children in our community. In order to do that, we host an annual Vacation Bible School that is packed with engaging Bible lessons, songs, activities, and food. People of all ages in our church volunteer their time and talents to care for kids at VBS. All children ages 3 years old through 5th grade are invited to join us for free. Summer 2024 theme was Seekers in Sneakers! We always look forward to VBS and the energy it brings to our church campus.
Nursery
Even the most noisy and wiggly children are welcome in both of our worship services. We offer children bulletins & coloring supplies to give children an outlet for wiggles while they worship. We also offer a secure nursery with child-protection trained caregivers for children (newborn to PreK 4) during worship. Some families bring their children to the nursery before worship. Others wait to bring their children to the nursery until after the Children’s Message. You may ask an usher, greeter, or pastor for directions to our nursery. We love to accommodate children’s special needs in worship. If your child has any special needs, let us know so that we can cherish them in their uniqueness. Our nursery is open from 8:15am-12:15pm on Sunday mornings. During a special Sunday of Unified Worship at 11:00am, our nursery is open from 9:15am-12:15pm.
