It is one thing to be a church who cares for its own, it is another to be a church who cares for God’s world. We know that Jesus sent his disciples out into the world, and so now we are sent. Embracing the unchurched is one of our four mission priorities as a church. We are seeking to engage our wider community in a posture of embrace. It means welcoming people who may have grown up in the church but have drifted away. It means engaging the topics and concerns of our culture with authenticity and warmth. This means sharing the great news about God with people who have never heard it. This last part is something we are learning to do together but with God’s help, we know we’ll get there. Youth Group
Young people are navigating a complex and chaotic world. Our First Pres Youth Group is a shelter from the storms of life gathering weekly on Sunday nights. It is first and foremost, a place where young people are reminded of their identity in Jesus Christ. Together, we consider how God’s grace intersects with issues facing young people. We explore God’s mystery through the nuances of Christian faith. We become a family of God where all are known and welcomed. We serve the world in Christ’s name. We accompany all of this with a sense of laughter, joy, playfulness and fun. Our next big YOUTH event is the Middle School Lock-In on Oct 25-26. Use this link to register now.
TWAM (Teens With A Mission)
TWAM is one of the true bright-spots and resounding legacies of our Youth Ministry. This is a week-long mission trip to Mexico where High Schoolers grow through profound acts of service and love. One of our leaders put it best when he said, “We can’t afford NOT to do this trip.” In a world where youth are more and more closed off to one another, this trip serves as a true adventure in a community where God’s living Spirit claims and confronts the lives of young people. Send your youth on this trip and they will return to you a transformed person. TWAM 5K (Run with Purpose)
Every Spring, our High School youth come together to raise funds for their summer mission trip to Mexico. This 5K fundraiser has not only become a significant reason why kids can continue to go on this life-changing trip, but this 5K run has also become one of the premier 5K routes in the area. It’s always quite a night, whether you’re running, cheering, or serving.
TWAM Soup Supper
Who among us doesn’t like a bowl of warm soup amidst thick Christian community around our Thanksgiving holiday? This is our TWAM team’s first fundraiser of the year. Our Youth run the show, and our people bring a wonderful variety of soups and salads for all to enjoy. It’s followed by a meaningful and down-to-earth Thanksgiving service. What a great way to usher in our season of thanks!
